Suede ballet flats from Gap

For some reason, every time I see a suede shoe I think it's going to be super comfortable. Which makes absolutely no sense, because it's not like the interior is lined with suede cushioning. Gina specializes in flashy dress-up heels and bridal shoes with Swarovski crystals, but you can also find subdued heels for a more everyday look. These gems rarely go on sale, and they're a bit of a splurge, but I just love to look at all the new styles, like these crystal-lined Cinderella-esque 'Gita' peep-toe heels. I think they'd be great for a special occasion, such as a formal dance, gala or wedding.

Finding the perfect prom dress is only half the battle. Now it's time to accessorize. The right shoes, the right jewelry, and the right hair accessories will complete your look and make you standout on prom night. And speaking of standing out, have you thought about your prom night shoes yet? If you are having trouble finding your perfect prom shoe, here are some helpful tips that are sure to complete your look.





Get a comfortable heel-height.

You're in luck, this year there is really no standard height for heels. Don't be afraid to go with a shoe that is comfortable. If you can't walk in heels, you can easily get away with comfy and stylish Ballet flats or low heeled satin sandal thongs this prom season. If balance isn't a concern of yours, you can really turn heads in some deliciously flirtatious rhinestone-sparked high heel platform shoes or daringly sexy strappy sandals with criss-cross details. The rule of thumb for prom night shoes that look and feel spectacular is to pick a heel height that's comfortable for you.



You have to remember that height is not the only factor in making your heels more comfortable. The shape and width of the heel as well as the shape of the shoe play a big role in your balance and stability when walking and especially when dancing.

Keep in mind that the narrower the heel, the less stability you will have. If you only plan to wear the heels for photos, it won't matter much, but if you're not used to heels at all, you have two choices. The first choice is to pick a pretty shoe with a chunkier heel, or a flashy and funky wedge heel that gives you a bit more stability.

This could be an excellent option if your gown is a bit funky and retro, but may not be the perfect choice for a sleek light-up-the-night dazzler. Another choice you have is to order your shoes early enough so that you can get in some practice time walking in those stunning stilettos or to-die-for platform heels.

Metallic Shine and Glitz

Metallic shoes are definitely in this prom season, especially if you're wearing a dress with glitzy glam. You should find some gorgeous metallic and glitter prom shoes that will set off your dress perfectly, but be sure that you've got the right dress for a shiny metallic shoe. A metallic sequined shoe with wishbone straps could be absolutely ideal if your dress has some glitter of its own, but could very well upstage a dress that doesn't have the same shimmer and flair.

Matching shoes are fun, but hard to find.
If you're shopping for shoes to match your dress, be sure to bring along a swatch of your dress so you can get a perfect match. That's especially important if you've chosen a prom gown in a solid color. If you've picked a print, you can get away with a close match to one of the colors in the print.

You might pick a dazzling red number if your dress has bright red roses for example. If your dress is a solid red color, be sure that you get a perfect match or choose a contrasting color. You can even be daring and go for a print shoe that accents the color of your dress, maybe something that's a bit surprising and really funky.

For a perfect match, choose a dyeable shoe.

Once upon a time dyeable meant you were stuck with a standard round-toed spectator style pump that looked just like everyone else's shoes, except for the color. That is not so anymore. Now you can light up the dance floor in perfectly dyed-to-match shoes in dozens of today's hottest styles. Whether you are looking for a strappy sandal with a sprinkle of rhinestones or a slingback platform with a sexy peek-a-boo toe, you will find it in a fabric than can be dyed to match your prom gown perfectly.

Shop for your prom shoes late in the day

Your feet expand over the course of the day, so be sure that you shop for your prom shoes in the late afternoon or evening to make sure you get a good fit. The last thing you want on your prom night is to find out that your shoes squeeze your toes so badly you can hardly stand up.

Spend at least ten minutes walking around the store in the shoes that you really like to make sure that they don't rub in uncomfortable places. Be sure to break them in just a bit after you get them home. Follow these simple rules, and you will end up with prom shoes that make your feet feel as fabulous as they look.
